What reproductive genetic testing options are available?

Carrier screening, chromosomal analysis, preimplantation genetic testing, cell-free DNA screening are some of the available genetic tests in reproduction. Some of the tests have to be performed while someone is pregnant in order to learn about the current pregnancy whereas many can be done prior to conception. The tests can either provide information about the individuals involved in conception or the pregnancy. Selecting to have genetic testing is personal decision that not everyone makes. Our goal is to inform people of their options, so they can make informed decisions that align with their goals.

Carrier Screening

assesses if someone or a reproductive pair have a higher than average chance to conceive a pregnancy with select genetic conditions.

Chromosomal Analysis

evaluates the number of chromosomes someone has. It may also detect deletions, duplications, structural differences, or rearrangements.

Preimplantation Genetic Testing

is a genetic test for embryos created with in-vitro fertilization (IVF) and can assess the number of chromosomes or select genetic conditions.

Genetic Testing in Pregnancy

includes screens that can reduce or increase the risk for certain conditions and diagnostic testing in combination with procedures such as chorionic villi sampling (CVS) and amniocentesis.
