About Modern Reproduction

Modern Reproduction was created to educate on the genetic tests offered during and before pregnancy as well as the ways families can come together such as through in-vitro fertilization. Every year new tests and recommendations come out that can help people understand the risk to have a pregnancy with a genetic condition as well as their options if they know they have this increased risk. However, these genetic tests and scientific advances are not often discussed in our general population or in our Family Planning classes in high school, if we have one. Often, the only time these genetic tests are discussed are after someone gets a positive test result in pregnancy. This is when the meaning of test results are discussed and the concepts of genes and chromosomes is introduced. It can be hard to have to make a decision about what to do next while still trying to understand the science behind a result.

The goals of Modern Reproduction are to educate on these topics before a difficult decision needs to be made as well as to empower people to make the decision that is most in line with their values. Finally, our goal is to embrace modern technology and the resulting modern families.
